Conference Hotel

The Hilton San Francisco Financial District Hotel is the Main Conference Venue. The address is: 750 Kearny Street, San Francisco, CA. It's very centrally located and we negotiated steeply discounted rates for great rooms for conference attendants. Staying in the conference hotel facilitates networking and is quite convenient for switching gear between conference, social events and regular business you may need to attend to. The hotel is also close to the Banquet site and the tutorial venues. Filling up hotel beds also helps us keeping registration fees low.

If, for any reason, you prefer not to stay in the conference hotel, here is some advice:

• San Francisco is a big convention city. In the week of ICSOC the Dream Force conference (Salesforce.com's house conference) will take place in the Moscone Center. The conference pre-booked most decent hotel rooms around the convention center.
• Unless you are on the really edgy side, avoid what is now sometimes called the "Cultural District". This includes the area of the Tenderloin and the Civic Center, featuring open drug trading, widespread street crime, homeless shelters and the like.
• The areas around the convention center, Union Square, Nob Hill, Financial District, and the Embarcadero have a number of hotels and are safe if they are not close to the Tenderloin.
• Fisherman's Wharf is safe though a little far and very tourist oriented.
• If you are on a shoe string budget try the motels in Lombard Street. The area is nice (Lombard St itself is a little noisy as it leads to the Golden Gate Bridge) but it is very far by bus.
• Finally, San Francisco is a popular destination and hotels are expensive. If a hotel is offered at a very low price there is usually a good reason
